Clean Money in Albuquerque, NM
In 2005, by a vote of 69% to 31%, Albuquerque, NM voters passed the Open and Ethical Elections Code Referendum, making it the first city in the country to pass a clean elections measure by popular referendum. The measure amends the city charter to provide public funding to qualifying candidates who agree not to accept contributions from individuals or from special interests.
